Every blog has to start somewhere. Here's the start of mine. I have found I waste far too much of other people's time talking to them about things that interest me but that barely interest them. Sure, most are polite enough to listen till I'm done. But the downside is, I have to return the favor.

Sometimes, I am fired up about something I read on the web. I have never successfully gotten anyone to browse over to a website for discussion purposes. In their presence, I usually can't remember the URL. And if I later email the correct link, they don't read it. Why would they? It's no longer fresh after I have expounded on it. From the listener's standpoint, the topic was likely past its use-by date about two minutes after I started in on it.

I discovered blogs about two years ago. Mostly, I read political blogs, and recently I found the blogs were sometimes lagging behind me in drawing interesting connections and counter-arguments. I figure that means it's time for me to get my own blog. I could bottle my observations up, or I could spout off to someone at a nearby workstation who doesn't really care, but my best option seems to be to dissipate my more contentious thoughts here, where they can't hurt anyone.
